God sets the lonely in families… Psalm 68:6
It’s so easy to get caught up in the pressures of life that you can find yourself feeling overwhelmed, unaccepted, insignificant, and alone. We believe what the Bible says, that no matter where you’re at in life, there is a God who loves you and wants to set you in His family! That is what CenterPointe Church is all about.
Our goal is reaching every age, race, and social class to teach the awesome hope for life that can only be found in God’s son, Jesus Christ! So, whether you are new to this “church stuff” and investigating who Jesus Christ is, or you are a committed Christ-follower, come and check us out and know that we’re for real when we say, “You’re only a visitor once – and then you’re a part of our family!”
Well of course you can browse through this site to answer all of your questions about us, but you may have questions about many things, such as “Did Jesus really live, die, and arise from the dead?”, “is the Bible really true?” Or, “what happens to you when you die?” These and many other questions we love to answer because just like you, many of us at CPC used to ask the same things. We teach and offer studies about questions such as those as well as practical subjects like marriage issues, family relationships, financial guidance, etc.
But the question everyone needs an answer to is, “Will I go to heaven when I die?” Maybe you already know the answer concerning your life. Most people (85% polled) believe they will go to heaven. Why? Whose standards will we be judged by to decide our everlasting fate?
The answer is God’s law. Maybe you’ve heard of the Ten Commandments? If you have, then you are probably familiar with a few of them. Since we are going to be judged, after we die, by God’s law, ask yourself if you’ve obeyed it. Let’s just go over a few of them:
- DO NOT LIE (the 9th commandment)
- Have you ever told a lie? Even a little white lie? Of course you have, so join the club! So then if you’ve ever lied, you are a… liar.
- DO NOT STEAL (the 8th commandment)
- Have you ever stolen anything? A piece of candy? Maybe you’ve cheated on your taxes? If you’re answer is no, let me remind you that according to #1 you’ve admitted that you’ve lied before! Ok, so now you’ve remembered that at one time you’ve stolen something. That makes you a… thief.
- DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY (the 7th commandment)
- Have you ever committed adultery? If you said no, let me remind you that Jesus said, “if a man lusts after a woman in his heart, he has committed adultery.” So, by what he (the Son of God) said, we are all guilty! That makes you an… adulterer.
- DO NOT MURDER (the 6th commandment)
- Last one… have you ever murdered anyone? Jesus said, “If you hate someone or are angry at them without just cause, you have slain them”. You guessed it, you’re guilty! That makes you a… murderer.
Guilty, or Not Guilty?
Now, by your own admittance, you are a lying, thieving, adulterous, murderer and you will have to answer to God on Judgment Day! Do you think He will let you into His Kingdom now? If you’re answer is still yes, then I hope you have fire insurance!
If your answer is no, then join the club! You’re in the same boat as the rest of the world (even those who answered yes above). We’ve failed! The Bible tells us that “everyone has sinned and fallen short of God’s glory” (Romans 3:23). In other words, sin is universal – we’re all born as sinners!
Because God is just (fair, a good judge) He will cast all liars, thieves, adulterers, murderers, and other sinners into hell. Hell is not the place God intended for the best of all His wonderful creation – mankind, but it was intended for the Devil (Satan) and his fallen angels. The Bible teaches that God’s character is only good, loving, and just, so therefore it is not in His nature to destroy people, but He also cannot lie (which is sin). This puts God in a tough situation, but He will ALWAYS do what He promises and in this case He is held by His word!
The Sentence Was Paid
In His love for mankind (you and I), He impregnated a young, innocent, virgin woman named Mary who gave birth to a baby boy (the Son of God Himself) who’s name was Jesus. This birth was a promise given by God to mankind since the beginning of creation, when the first man, Adam committed sin by disobeying God (of whom we all became sinners).
Jesus grew up to become a man and because he was not born from the seed of a man, but of God, he did not have a human nature to sin (like we have). Therefore, he lived approximately 33 years on earth never disobeying God’s commandments even though he was tempted in every way just as all of us are every day.
He gave his life as a sacrifice to God by being crucified on a cross (a Roman execution). This was the only way to pay for the “fine of breaking God’s law”. Jesus died and was put into a tomb where he laid for 2 nights. On the 3rd day, God raised him from the dead and he became alive again in an immortal body! He was seen alive by more than 500 witnesses over a period of 40 days after his resurrection! After this, he went up into heaven where he sits beside God, his Father and waits for the time when his Father will send him again to rule over the earth!
Do You Get It?
To understand the sacrifice of Jesus for the sins of you and I, think of it like this: You are standing in a courtroom guilty of the laws (lying, stealing, adultery, murder, etc.) and by the law, you would rightfully be punished by death! Then, a man, whom you’ve never even met, comes up to the judge and says he wants to take the punishment for you. The judge accepts and you go home free! Isn’t that the greatest gift of love you’ve ever heard of? That’s exactly what Jesus did for the whole world.
However, there’s a catch! The only thing you have to do to get “off the hook” for your crimes against God is to believe in this story you’ve just heard. You must believe with all of your heart that a man named Jesus truly lived, died, rose again and that through faith in him, you are forgiven by God and He will let you into His kingdom! It’s not because of anything that you did to deserve this, but because God loves you, He sent His only son Jesus, to die (John 3:16), and because Jesus loves you, he willingly laid down his own life to obey his father so we may be free from the penalty of sin which is death!
The BIG Question
Now, do you want to stand innocent before God on Judgment Day? If so, the Bible says all you have to do is admit you’re a sinner and “…believe in your heart the Lord Jesus Christ and confess with your mouth that God raised him from the dead.” (Romans 10:9) Because of your “faith” in that, God will remember you when you stand before Him someday!
If you’re serious right now about this, and want to become a follower of Christ, then say this prayer to God with all of your heart:
God, I know that I am a sinner and I am guilty of breaking your commandments. I do believe in your son, Jesus Christ! I believe he lived, died, and that you brought him back to life! I am thankful for your mercy and accept your grace over my life. Put your spirit within me so I can follow after you. Amen.
A New Hope
If you were convinced and believe what you just said, the Bible (God’s Word) says that you are saved, and have been born again into a new life. Congratulations on “waking up” to the secret that many (unfortunately) do not know. You are now a Christian.
Remember that the best way to say thank you to God and Jesus for their love is to give your life in service to them. Study the Bible. It gives you everything you need to know concerning life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). Also, get “plugged into” a local church that has friendly people and teaches the Bible.
We would really like to hear your from you if you read this and want to know more. Come visit us and…welcome to the family of God!
